David Attenborough, the voice of nature

There is a voice we would recognize among a thousand, a warm and gentle voice, that whispers in wonder at a butterfly unfolding its wings or a herd of elephants crossing the savanna. A voice that has accompanied us since childhood and has introduced us to the living world without leaving our sofas at home. It is the voice of David Attenborough.

He was born in London in 1926 and grew up in Leicester, where from a very young age he collected fossils, stones, and all kinds of findings: the natural world was, at the same time, his playground and his private museum. That passion led him to study natural sciences at Cambridge and, in 1952, to join the BBC. With Life on Earth and so many other series, David has taken us to the most remote corners of the planet, from the depths of the sea to the heart of the jungle.

Convinced that nobody protects what they don't know, David has become one of the great environmental activists of our time. And even today, as he turns 100, he continues to raise his voice to protect the landscapes and creatures he has taught us to love. He does so with the same gentleness as always, the one that taught us to marvel when we were children and that, as adults, we have never stopped listening to.
