Her name was Marina Palomer i Bataller, and she was the only child of a humble couple exiled from Empordà. She was born in Alenyà (France), but she made the journey back to Catalonia with her family when she was 3 years old, carrying her school supplies. She remembered having to leave them along the way because they were too heavy. Once settled in Garrigàs, she was able to continue studying until, still very young, she was put to work.

She grew up, married Florenci, and they had a boy and, later, in 1956, twin girls. That year was very cold. Marina used to say that the water in the sink would freeze inside the house and that even the olive trees died. Unfortunately, one of the girls did not survive.

The family got by thanks to their land and a cow farm they owned. Throughout her life, Marina worked very hard. She was a very vibrant and family-oriented woman and lived for many years, which allowed her to meet her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. And, if it had been up to her, she would have stayed to meet even more generations.

She didn't want to leave, but she finally left us in Figueres at the age of 96. She had beautiful greenish eyes and a big heart, and she cooked like an angel. Her family loved her very much, and she loved them too.
