WHY ACRYLIC?

RECYCLED ACRYLIC
Many people ask us why our sweaters contain acrylic. The reason is that when we recover scraps, they are composed of wool and different types of acrylic. This is the material we use to recycle and remake yarn. (It would be impossible to separate the two types of fiber in a mechanical process.)
On the other hand, for the time being, it's not possible to achieve the proper yarn twist using only recycled wool fibers. Therefore, a good amount of acrylic fibers is necessary. In the case of IAIOS, all the fibers we use (acrylic and wool) are recycled.
This system allows us to avoid the dyeing process. (We simply separate the scraps by shade and then grind and blend them to find the right colors.) Furthermore, we use only 1% of the water used in a normal spinning process.
We'd also like to emphasize that acrylic doesn't necessarily have to be an artificial and harmful material. In fact, it can be more sustainable depending on its use. For example, it's much easier to recycle than other types of materials (even multiple times). It also gives the yarn strength and durability, giving our clothes a longer lifespan.
NOTE: All the fibers we use in our yarn (acrylic and wool) are recycled.
